Keep track of bird sightings with eBird online
An Introduction to eBird workshop will be held Sunday at 1 p.m. at the Camp Kawartha Environment Centre, 2505 Pioneer Rd. The program eBird, an internet-based bird record system developed by the Lab of Ornithology, is a method for maintaining one’s personal bird sighting records while contributing your records to the largest international database on bird observation. It is coordinated in Canada by Bird Studies Canada and the data is used by scientists around the world to gain a greater understanding of avian populations, dynamics and migration.
At this indoor workshop, Martin Parker and Matthew Tobey will give an introduction to eBird, including how to enter data and how to review the data already submitted. Jennifer Baici, PhD student at Trent University, will give a short presentation on her use of eBird data to estimate the size of Peterborough County’s Wild Turkey population and how your individual observations can contribute.
Bring your laptop or other mobile device to use during the workshop.
Rock Block
Rock Block, a monthly drop in space for young and aspiring musicians, is celebrating a first birthday. In honour of that occasion, and Trent Radio’s annual RPM Challenge in February, Rock Block is hosting a DIY record production workshop and serving cake on Thursday!
The event will be held at Sadleir House from 3 until 6 p.m. From 3 until 4 p.m. there will be time to set up and jam, from 4 to 5 p.m. the workshop happens (lo-fi recording, basics of producing an album), and from 5 until 6 p.m. there will be more jamming followed by cleanup. The RPM challenge is offered yearly to musicians to create an album of music, including ten songs or 35 minutes, during the month of February. For further information search for Trent Radio RPM Challenge on Facebook.
Rock Block is hosted by RC4G Peterborough and provides gear and guidance and a place where people can take risks, build confidence and make music together. Participants can bring their own instruments or use RC4G’s guitar, bass or drums.
