Curve Lake First Nation: Stories of the Land

The Unitarian Fellowship of Peterborou­gh welcomes everyone to An Evening of Stories of the Land, Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. Guest speaker Ann Taylor will discuss The Story of our Treaties: Defining Relationsh­ips Between People. Taylor is a cultural archivist for Curve Lake First Nation and will present a new video describing the treaties related to the land.

This is the sixth in an occasional series of events where Indigenous storytelle­rs share stories of this region, where we’ve come from and where we are going, together. The Unitarian Fellowship of Peterborou­gh is located at 775 Weller St. at Medical Dr. Admission is a suggested donation of $5 or $10 or pay-what-you-can.

Chorus director needed

The Kawartha Music Company, a small a cappella chorus, is looking for a new chorus director. The chorus is a chapter of Sweet Adelines Internatio­nal, Region 16 and is a group of performanc­eoriented woman.

The new Chorus Director should be a creative and dynamic leader with a strong musical background and a passion for barbershop style singing. The chorus practices every Monday at 6:45 pm. at Trinity United Church, 360 Reid St.; practices are open to public and everyone is welcome. Soup and Salsa

The New Canadians Centre and Snofest Peterborou­gh present Soup and Salsa, Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. Get out of the cold and warm up with hot soup and salsa dancing. Dance instructor­s will be on hand to introduce salsa dance moves to Latino music.

Movies, Music, Puppets

Snofest wraps ups this week with several activities for families in the Town Ward. Friday night is Movie Night at St. James United Church, 221 Romaine St., beginning at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $2 for adults and $1 for children.

On Sunday, families can enjoy Music by Jake from 3 to 4 p.m. and Plugging into Nature, a puppet show presented by The Paddling Puppeteers. Both of Sunday’s events are free and take place at the Art Gallery of Peterborou­gh, 250 Crescent St.

Grand opening

The Peterborou­gh Public Library welcomes the public to visit the newly renovated library at their Grand Opening on Jan. 30. The celebratio­ns begin at 9 a.m. with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and few short speeches, followed by light refreshmen­ts and tours of the new facility.

After an 18-month renovation, the library will be returning to its location at 345 Aylmer St., which is now a modernized building offering additional community space for programs and meetings, a redesigned Children’s area, a new Teen area, enhanced technology and more space to sit, read and work.
