Woman hit, killed by Via Rail train

COBOURG -- Cobourg Police are investigat­ing after a woman was hit and killed by a Via Rail passenger train Monday morning in Cobourg.

Police say it happened at 8:49 a.m. at the D’Arcy Street crossing in the community south of Peterborou­gh.

No foul play is suspected. Cobourg police, CN police and the coroner are investigat­ing.

The rail crossing was closed temporaril­y Monday morning, reopening after 11 a.m.

Police did not name the woman on Monday.
