Excalibur volleyball teams lose the battle of Waterloo

The Trent Excalibur women’s volleyball team played two tough matches against the Guelph Gryphons and the Waterloo Warriors over the weekend.

After a hard fought 3-0 defeat to Guelph Saturday night, in which Trent’s Camile Garzon led the Excalibur with 11 kills, and first year outside hitter Genna Saunders had 9 kills with a .421 hitting percentage, the Excalibur travelled to Waterloo to take on the Warriors, the sixth ranked west division team, on Sunday afternoon.

Hayes led the Excalibur with an impressive 25 assists in the match, while Camile Garzon and Genna Saunders added 9 kills each.

On the men’s side, the team displayed a valiant effort in their two road games over the weekend. On Saturday, a balanced attack from the Excalibur saw Emanuel DansoAmofa, Omer Sullivan, Nicholas Taylor, and Matthew Bergin each record 3 kills in a 3-0 loss to the Gryphns. The team made the short trip from Guelph to Waterloo for a Sunday afternoon match against a tough Waterloo Warriors team. An impressive showing from third year setter Tom Martin saw him record 18 assists, while outside hitter Jacob Bothen recorded 7 kills in a 3-0 loss. The xcalibur will prepare for a two game home stand as the men’s and women’s volleyball teams take on the Nipissing Lakers on Saturday night, and the York Lions on Sunday, both at the Trent Athletics Centre.
