Port Hope Royal Bank branch robbed
PORT HOPE - A bandit made off with an undisclosed amount of money following a robbery Tuesday morning at an RBC Royal Bank branch in Port Hope.
A lone man entered the RBC at 1 Jane St. at Toronto Road in Port Hope and approached a teller just before 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Port Hope Police Service said.
He handed over a note and indicated it was a robbery, police said.
He received an undisclosed amount of money, left the bank and was last seen walking eastbound towards the rear parking lot, police said.
No weapon was seen and there were no physical injuries to staff members or other customers in the bank, police said.
The man is described as white, six feet tall wearing a red tuque with dark sunglasses, green jacket and a yellow shirt.
Port Hope police officers were on scene in minutes of the call, police said. and searched the area.
A Durham Regional Police police dog was called to the scene to assist in the search, police said.
Port Hope police are not sure if a vehicle was involved but are checking surrounding surveillance cameras.
The bank was closed for the preliminary investigation and will be closed for the remainder of the day on Tuesday.
The robbery is the second in Port Hope this year. On Jan. 31, a man entered the downtown Scotiabank location on Walton Street around noon on Jan. 31 and demanded money from a teller.
