New owner takes over Peachy Keene Cafe
There’s a new chef in town and she’s already putting Keene on the map. The 2018 Kawarthas Northumberland Self-Guided Butter Tart Tour map, that is. Red Seal chef Cassandra Mogelin has taken over Peachy Keene Café, and while providing good home cooking seven days a week, she has a created a butter tart that is sure to attract connoisseurs from afar. The Peachy Keene butter tart capitalizes on the name of the café at the four corners of Keene and is made with caramelized peach and peach schnapps. Mogelin has made a few physical changes in the restaurant, but the big reveal will be today (Mon., March 5) when the new menu makes its debut. Peachy Keene is open from 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, except Friday when it is open for dinner until 7 p.m., and Sunday, when it opens at 8 a.m.

Peterborough Public Health leads the cooking sessions, which run on Thursdays from April 19 to May 17, from 12:30 p.m. to. 2:45 p.m. A minimum number of participants are required, so sign up soon. Childcare is available on request. Call 743-1000 ext. 316 or email comecookwithus@hotmail.com.
Art in the Library
Art in the Library Phase II kicks off at the Keene and Bailieboro libraries on March 24. The installations represent the work of established and emerging artists and run until May 26. On March 24, from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Keene library, Marie Adamcryk will reveal her new wood-carved marionette and her plans for it. From 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Lucy Manley, who now works on black-toned canvasses, will demonstrate how she works up an oil painting from a sketch or photo. A fundraiser for the library will start the same day, with the donation of a winter landscape by Marilyn Goslin.
