Ontario Progressive Conservative party leadership candidate Caroline Mulroney will focus on improving child care, providing more long-term-care beds for an aging population and rebuilding trust in the PC party if she becomes premier.

Mulroney was in Peterborough on Tuesday for a breakfast meeting at the Holiday Inn. It was Mulroney’s first stop of the day on her tour ahead of the Saturday convention where the new leader will be named. Also running are Doug Ford, Christine Elliott and Tanya Granic Allen.

The position has been temporarily filled by Vic Fedeli after Patrick Brown stepped down due to sexual misconduct allegations.

Brown attempted to run for his previous position, but dropped out on Feb. 20.

Mulroney says the race has likely been the shortest one in history but has also been quite active.

“It has been a very short leadership race and a very tumultuous one,” she said.

But she noted that during her campaign she’s had the opportunity to talk to many people about the issues facing Ontario and has been coming up with solutions.

And she also said PC member voters are looking for a strong candidate to walk into the June 7 provincial election and beat current Liberal Premier Kathleen Wynne.

Mulroney laid out her plans, if she becomes premier, which include lowering taxes on the middle class and scrapping the carbon tax.

Unlike fellow candidates Ford and Elliott, who promised to reform the sex education curriculum while in Peterborough, Mulroney said she will leave it as is but while make sure future changes are more carefully considered.

“The Liberals did a terrible job of consulting parents,” she said.
