Three Jr. Timbermen teams win Jr. ALL titles
The inaugural Junior Arena Lacrosse League season came to a close last weekend with all three Peterborough Jr. Timbermen teams winning championships.
In its second season the Arena Lacrosse League expanded to provide winter indoor box lacrosse for divisions from U22 to U13, with Peterborough flooring three teams.
The majority of games were played at Oshawa’s Children’s Arena and the Iroquois Lacrosse Arena, with one weekend at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
The U13 Timbermen finished in first place with an impressive 11-1 record and then defeated the Six Nations Snipers 7-3 in the championship game on Saturday.
Scoring for the Timbermen were Tyson Forget and Aiden Waller with two goals each while Jared Martinell, Marielle Collins and Claire Crowley added singles. Mate Sage chipped in with six assists. Keegan Parker three and Eric Hainer two.
Ashley Condon was a wall in net making several big saves in the final few minutes.
All three Peterborough teams faced Six Nations in the final. The U18 Timbermen beat Six Nations 9-8 and the U22 Timbermen defeated the Snipers 8-5 to complete the sweep. Scoring details were unavailable.
“The first year of the Junior ALL was deemed a success,” said coach Garnet Sage. “We had over 150 kids playing winter lacrosse which we hope to grow those numbers next year and branch out to new centres as well.”
