New Timmy’s developer willing to wait a year
A new Tim Hortons with a drivethru proposed for a west-end residential subdivision may not be built and open until late 2019.
City council has already given preliminary approval to allow the Tims at Chandler Cres. and Parkhill Rd. W., which is at the entrance of the new Jackson Creek Meadows subdivision. The final vote is expected at a city council meeting Monday.
But now the developer has spoken to city staff, said Coun. Don Vassiliadis, and is proposing to wait until 2019 to build and open the Tim Hortons.
That’s because Parkhill Rd. W. is due to be rebuilt by the end of 2019, complete with a signalized intersection at Chandler Cres.
Vassiliadis said the developer Satish Thakkar of Toronto - is willing to wait for road reconstruction and intersection signalization to be done before opening the restaurant.
That’s a good solution, said Vassiliadis: he thought it would be “rushed” to open a Tim Hortons when the road’s under construction.
“I thought, ‘Good for the developer,’” Vassiliadis said. “They obviously see the concern.”
Brian Buchardt, urban design planner for the city, said the developer wants to build and open a small plaza on the property first.
The developer proposes to pour the foundation of the Tim Hortons but only build it while Parkhill Rd. is under construction, Buchardt said.
The plan would be to open the restaurant only later, when the newly reconstructed road and intersection and complete.
On Monday, council will be expected to discuss the plan prior to a final vote. Before that vote, citizens can speak to council. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.
