Coding workshop is for all

- JESSICA NYZNIK Examiner staff writer

An inclusive coding workshop for beginners is happening downtown next weekend.

Canada Learning Code is hosting Ladies Learning Code: HTML and CSS for Beginners on March 24 at the Innovation Cluster’s Cube on George St.

It runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and, despite the event title, it’s open to everyone.

The goal of the hands-on workshop is to offer an inclusive opportunity for anyone to learn code, regardless of gender or experience.

Participants will learn HTML and CSS, which is a vital skill for web development to create marking materials, company domains and blog sites.

Attendees will also learn basic techniques and concepts that are translatable to other programming languages, how to create a rich website with images, video and a CSS-defined layout and how to create a multi-page website.

The cost is $65 or pay what you can, with a suggested donation of $30. There are also some spaces available at no cost for those who can’t afford it.

Canada Learning Code is a not-for-profit agency that teaches digital skills to those who’re often underrepresented, such as women and Indigenous youth.

To date, the agency has held more than 2,000 educational events, with women making up 97 per cent of the attendance.
