A farmer’s journals

This afternoon I was hewing timber for James Webster. After dinner Charles Crow came here to hire. I offered him $150, the use of a house and an acre of land and all the apple trees over there for a years work. Before he went away he accepted my offer.

We went to town with the waggon and I took 350 lbs of flax to Walsh, the druggist, and 337 lbs to T.G. Hazlitt at three cents per pound.

We went from town to John Moore's and at night we went to Robert Mitchell's to an oyster supper.

1891 March 19, Thurs.

I went to town and ordered the bills for our sale which will be on April 2.

1891 March 20, Fri.

After dinner I and Willie Graham took a load of straw to H. Calcutt. The sleighing is splendid and after we unloaded the straw I helped Willie Graham cut and pull out ice in the Little Lake. He took a load him with him.

I was sticking up bills of my sale. There are now about ten inches of fresh snow, more snow than at any time this winter.

1891 March 24, Tues.

Lovina and I went to Lakefield and I distributed some of my sale bills. We had tea at Mr. Moore’s in Lakefield.

After breakfast Lovina and I went to Cavanville to visit Mrs. Tinney, who is very ill and indeed is not expected to live very long. 1892 March 21, Mon.

Our visitors all left after dinner today. They went to Mitchell’s to be near town intending to start for Illinois and Iowa and John E. Leary and his nephew are going to Texas.

Lovina and I went up to Mitchells and spent part of the night very pleasantly with them and bade good bye to Will Weir, Ida Weir and Melissa Weir and Old Mrs. Harris and John and Rea Leary.
