Chiefs win opener in OT

LAKEFIELD — Matt Carroll scored in overtime to lead the Lakefield Hendren Funeral Home Chiefs to a 3-2 win over the Port Hope Panthers in the opening game of the PJHL East Division championsh­ip series on Tuesday night at the LakefieldS­mith Community Centre. Matthew McIntyre, assisted by Aaron Vatcher and Tarren Jank, and Jeff Hawthorne, assisted by Jank and McIntyre, scored for the Orr Division champion Chiefs.

But the Panthers fought back to tie it up in the third on a goal by Evan Foley, assisted by Peterborou­gh native Cameron McGill and Dayton Kent.

After the game remained tied at 2-2 at the end of regulation play, Carroll scored at 11:49 in the overtime, assisted by Jordan MacLean.

Michael Christie made 41 saves for the win

Game 2 is Thursday at 8 p.m. in Port Hope.
