Public meeting April 3 on new arena study

- EXAMINER STAFF

The city is holding a public meeting next month on the ongoing study into the feasibility of building a new multi-use sport and event centre to replace the Memorial Centre.

The meeting will be held April 3 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Evinrude Centre, Banquet Hall, 911 Monaghan Rd.

The study, by Toronto-based Sierra Planning and Management, is being conducted in two phases, with an initial review of market opportunities to replace the existing Memorial Centre and a second phase including a more detailed assessment of potential site locations, concept design and financial implications of investing in a new facility, according to a release from the city.

People attending the meeting will hear an update on what the feasibility study is about, why the consultants are needed, what the rest of the process will be and what the study will accomplish.

The study began several months ago and the consultant will provide a presentation on what has been done so far and the issues facing the city.

People can provide their opinions on the project and the merits of a new venue, the release states.

People will also be asked to suggest ideal locations in downtown Peterborough for the proposed facility.

Details of the process can be found on the city’s website at www.Peterborough.ca under Business/Studies & Projects.
