Easter services planned for Town Ward churches

Town Ward churches are holding a variety of Easter Celebratio­ns this week; all are welcome.

All Saints Anglican Church hosts a Maundy Thursday Parish Supper and service, in the Parish Hall, beginning at 6 p.m. this Thursday. Bishop Riscylla Shaw, Area Bishop of Trent Durham, will preside.

A Good Friday service takes place at 10:30 a.m. during which the choir, under the direction of Syd Birrell will sing Allegri’s Miserere, Sander’s Reproaches and Lotti’s Crucifixus. Easter Sunday Services take place at both 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. Pastor Jim Halmarson will be presiding over the Good Friday and Easter Sunday services. All Saints Anglican Church is located at 235 Rubidge St.

Emmanuel United Church East, located at 534 George St., hosts a Potluck Supper on Maundy Thursday. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m., followed by worship at 7 p.m. On Good Friday, the congregati­on of Emmanuel United Church will worship at 10 a.m. at Trinity United Church, 360 Reid St.

On Easter Sunday, a Sunrise Service is scheduled for 7 a.m. on Courthouse Hill, and an Easter Worship Service is scheduled for 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Together We Eat

Three Minute Thesis

Trent University’s Three Minute Thesis (3MT) Competitio­n takes place Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Market Hall, 140 Charlotte St. The competitio­n challenges 20 Masters and Doctoral students to explain their complex and highly specialize­d research to a general audience in three minutes with only one PowerPoint slide.

The President’s First Prize is $500 and an opportunit­y to represent Trent at the Ontario 3MT finals. This is a free event, and all are welcome. For more info, visit www.trentu.ca/events.

Trent Film Society
