TIMBERMEN BEAT PARIS

-

The Peterborough Timbermen closed out their 2017 regular season on Saturday night with an 8-6 win over the Paris River Wolves at Oshawa’s Children’s Arena. Seventh-place Peterborough and second-place Paris will meet next week in the Arena Lacrosse League quarter-finals. Peterborough’s 5-9 record equaled that of both Oshawa and Six Nations, but they finished in seventh based on a goal-differential formula.

They will play the third game of a triple-header at Children’s Arena next Saturday, March 31 at 7 p.m. Six Nations plays Whitby at 1 p.m. and Oshawa faces St. Catharines at 4 p.m. The ALL semi-finals and championship game will take place on April 6th and 7th at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville.

Fred Hartley led Peterborough with three goals and two assists, Tim Bergin had three goals and an assist while Kaleb Bingley and Cam Garlin also scored. Cole McWilliams had four assists with others to Colton Armstrong, Dan Michel and Riley Campbell.

“We just came out and played,” Armstrong said. “Paris was really aggressive and we caught onto that early so we just moved the ball, pushed the ball and found a couple of power play goals.”

“The guys played really hard tonight. They worked really hard for this W,” assistant coach Ray Dance Jr. said. “Our loose ball pursuit was phenomenal. Our defense was on their mitts the whole night, causing turnovers. The guys wanted it for themselves.”

The Timbermen have some confidence going into the playoffs after winning the season series against Paris 2-0.

The final ALL standings are as follows: 1. Toronto Monarchs 11-3; 2. Paris River Wolves 8-6; 3. St. Catharines ShockWave 8-6; 4. Whitby Steelhawks 7-7; 5. Six Nations Snipers 5-9; 6. Oshawa Outlaws 5-9; 7. Peterborough Timbermen 5-9.
