Ladies’ night of music and fun in Norwood
IODE hosts its annual dinner, with music, a raffle and more
The Norwood IODE hosted its 13th annual Ladies Night Out on March 23 in the Millennium Room of the Asphodel Norwood Community Complex. A sold-out crowd of more than 200 ladies left their menfolk at home to enjoy an evening of fellowship, delicious food and great entertainment.
Member Rose Millet and her crew served up their now traditional array of sumptuous delicacies. This year the IODE stayed local with the entertainment and showcased the impressive talents of Kevin Hornsby.
Kevin mixed his fine-tuned singing and guitar talents with a considerable bit of comedy to provide the ladies with an entertaining evening. For a couple of songs he even had help on stage from a member of the audience to the pure delight of all in attendance.
After the show IODE President Lisa Cossar thanked everyone for coming and for their continued support of IODE; she congratulated the event organizers Rose Millet, Brenda Webb, Merilyn Shaw, Laurie Inglis, Jan Hornsby, Mary Forbes, Kim Lutes and the rest of the committee for doing such an amazing job of putting together another great evening. The amount of work these ladies put into making the evening run smoothly is unimaginable.
Organizer Rose Millet sends her own special thanks to “the girls,” Ann Carlow and Shannon Webb, who although they are not IODE members, help out nearly every year; also a big thank you to the young ladies who come to help out in the kitchen including Ashley, Ashton, Eliza and Molly.
Carl Millet’s whimsical creations have become the traditional top prize for the annual prize raffle; Pee Wee, a unique ducklike flower pot created from a bedpan and a variety of brass and copper fixtures was won by Cheryl Harrison from Havelock.
The IODE extends their appreciation to everyone that helped to make the evening so enjoyable. The group would also like to express their thanks to the Norwood Community Centre staff for being “so friendly and accommodating.”
The money raised will be used to support the organizations many beneficiaries, both in the community and country wide with the main focus right now on the Hospice Norwood project.
The IODE meets the fourth Thursday of the month at the Norwood Legion.
During a recent meeting several members of the 105 year old service club were recognized for their years of long and meritorious service to the chapter. A very special presentation was made to Doris Johnston of a 50-year pin recognizing her half a century of service to the regiment. Doris Peoples, Brenda Webb, Meri-Lyn Shaw were each recognized for their 25 years of service and Dayle Griffin and Laura Inglis each received their pins for 10 years.
New members are always welcome. For more information contact Brenda Webb at 705-6395733.
As a final note I would like to thank the IODE for once again inviting me to cover the event, as I may have mentioned before, being one of only two guys in a roomful of ladies is always an interesting experience.
