1890 Wednesday March 26

It was four o’clock this morning when we got home from the party at Mitchell’s, it being the anniversary of Emma’s birthday, twenty years old yesterday. After coming home we went to bed and slept until eleven o’clock today and before we had the fire lit there were six visitors here from town. Very blustery weather all day with some flurries of snow.

1890 Friday March 28

There has been a fearful storm of wind and snow from the east all day. There is now about four inches of snow.

1890 Saturday March 29

I took to town a load of wood on the waggon in the forenoon and after dinner I took the sleigh and went to Leary’s for two spruce logs for to be sawed for a waggon rack. There are about as many sleighs on the road as waggons but for a load the waggon is the best. Beautiful day, not thawing, neither is it freezing.

1890 Monday March 31

I had John Elliott, George Mitchell and a man from James Duffus and a tramp named James Cameron helping me cut straw all day. Splendid weather. Robert Mitchell and Isabella were here yesterday.

1891 March 31, Tues.

I took to Mr. Belcher a load of hay at eight dollars per ton. I had a ton and twenty pounds. Stormy all of the afternoon.

1891 April 1

In the forenoon we were preparing for the sale tomorrow. After dinner I took a load of hay to George Graham, at eight dollars per ton. It rained all the forenoon and rained some in the afternoon. The roads are deep with mud.
