Locally owned kayak company opens new store east of Omemee

Salmon River Kayaks has been a home-based business for about a year but owner Jeff Facey has just announced that they’ll be opening a new store just east of Omemee in early May, selling brand new kayaks, SUPs and accessorie­s. Turf specialist

Greg O’Heron is a well known local turf specialist as the former greens keeper at Peterborou­gh Golf and Country Club.

Greg recently launched his own business called Home Turf. Greg provides a number of outdoor services including lawn consultati­on, arificatio­n, pest management, and weed and feed advice.

But he’s also offering a number of indoor services as well including de-cluttering and downsizing, minor repairs, painting and drywall, built-in closets and bookshelve­s and more. Call Greg at 705-741-9112 for details.

Student entreprene­urs

Peterborou­gh & the Kawarthas Business Advisory Centre is now accepting applicatio­ns for aspiring student entreprene­urs through the Summer Company program.

Summer Company is the Government of Ontario’s flagship youth entreprene­urship program that connects students ages 15-29 with training, mentorship and funding to start a summer business. This is the seventeent­h year for the program and nine grants up to $3000 are available.

Meanwhile, The Innovation Cluster and FastStart Peterborou­gh have partnered to bring a new summer incubation program called Slingshot to young entreprene­urs between the ages of 18-29. The successful applicants will receive coworking space in the Innovation Clusters downtown Cube, tools and resources for 4 months. Successful applicants will move into the Cube to begin working on their company on May 1 so apply now at innovation­cluster.ca

Trip to India

If you’ve always wanted to visit India, the Chamber of Commerce annual Group Tour includes 10 days in India this year! Departing on November 5, the trip includes the annual Diwali Festival.
