Astronomy group meets at Riverview Park and Zoo
Astronomers also plan a celebration of life for John Crossen
The Peterborough Astronomical Association (PAA) meets Friday at 7 p.m. at the Rotary Education Centre Guest Services Building at Riverview Park and Zoo.
The main presentation which begins at 7:30 p.m. features a Skype talk by Dr. Luc Simard, director of the National Research Council (NRC), Astronomy Technology Program, Hertzberg Astronomy and Astrophysics, Victoria, B.C.
Following the presentation, the Sky This Month portion of the meeting will take place where participants learn about the locations of the planets in the solar system.
This is an all ages meeting and the venue is barrier-free. New members are always welcome and you don’t need a telescope to belong.
Also, there will be a celebration of life for longtime club member, and owner of the Buckhorn Observatory, John Crossen who died March 22.
The celebration will be held Sunday from noon until 3 p.m. at the Buckhorn Community Centre.
“The club…lost a true advocate, writer, promoter and educator of astronomy and long-time member John Crossen. Mr. Astronomy (as he was known) will be missed by the many people whose lives he touched through astronomy and beyond. His legacy will be remembered, along with his sense of humour,” said Rick Stankiewicz, PAA publicity director.
