Police must do more to stop bad drivers
Have the Ontario Provincial Police become apathetic to safety on Highway 7 between Norwood and Peterborough?
I travel the TransCanada highway from Havelock to Peterborough daily and some of the actions drivers take would curl your hair ... from using the marked turning lanes as passing lanes, using the centre passing lane while travelling in the opposite direction with a complete disregard to the posted sign to yield the centre lane to opposing traffic. This, along with the usual vehicles that pass on solid lines during the drive, all in the name of getting there a little quicker!
Yes I see the presence of police on this stretch consistently and their focus on speeding is, indeed, duly noticed. However, it would be nice to see the other serious infractions curbed!
Just this past winter we lost another person on this stretch of highway. So forgive me for my frustration when I was travelling east March 28 at 8 a.m. just outside Norwood) when I watched a Brown Dodge Charger one vehicle ahead of me use part of the turning lane to pass a pickup truck … and to my horror I saw an OPP SUV parked on the north side of the highway, obviously watching for speeding of the westbound traffic, do nothing.
The vehicle that made the pass had crossed the solid line to complete the pass using the centre lane with oncoming traffic approaching all under the watchful gaze of a police cruiser positioned for traffic duty left me both dumbfounded and with a feeling that this was completely unacceptable on every level!
An apathy from the driver of the car with regard to those around him shared by the officer who is employed to keep us safe!
We drivers who share this road MUST gain a level of respect for one another and realize that that risky pass to get one more vehicle ahead is not going to get you to work faster or home any quicker and one day it might have life altering consequences!
To the police officer tucked in waiting for that next car going too quick: Be vigilant to the other serious concerns and maybe just maybe we could stop some of the needless carnage on our highways!
