Swimmers earn firsts at East Novice Regionals
The Kawartha Trent Synchro Club’s Teen Synchro athletes competed last weekend in the East Novice Regional Competition in Ottawa, returning with a team first place and a solo first place.
In the 16-20 Solo category, Lauren Stoyles swam to a first place finish.
“She has a lot of energy when she swims,” stated coach Nicole Hicks-Casey. “She loves to swim and it really showed in her solo performance this weekend, which is something that the judges reward”.
The club also earned first in the 11-12 Trio category. Cassandra Berry, Martha Smith and Amelia Leahy make up the winning trio and are coached by Ally Sandiland.
“This is the first time any of these swimmers have competed, and it was a great first experience for them,” Sandiland stated.
The 11-12 age groups swimmers also competed in the individual figure competition, with Cassandra Berry placing third, Martha Smith placing fifth and Amelia Leahy placing sixth.
In the 13-15 team category, Jennifer Berry, Erika Estabrooks, Amy Li and Ella Zegarra Brown swam to an eighth-place finish.
“This year brought a new challenge to this age group category with the introduction of elements into their routine,” coach Sabrina Adam stated.
“For the first time ever, the routines had to incorporate set skills in a set order. They are judged on the technical execution of these elements, as well as the overall impression of the rest of the routine.
“I am extremely proud of how well these girls rose to the challenge and can’t wait to see how they do at provincials.”
KTSC’s Teen Synchro athletes compete again May 5 and 6 in Etobicoke at the provincial competition. KTSC’s competitive athletes next compete at the Hilton Worldwide Invitational meet in Etobicoke April 19 to 22.
