Library welcomes Scrabble Club players

Poetry night, book clubs and more are now available

Do you like Scrabble? If yes, then the library offers a club for you. On the last Tuesday of the month at 2 p.m. there is a Scrabble club open to new members at the Bridgenort­h Library. For more informatio­n, email Heather at hjamieson@mypublicli­brary.ca or phone the Bridgenort­h Library at 705-292-5065. Registrati­on is required, and all levels of experience are welcome.

There will be a poetry night at the Lakefield Library from 7 to 8 p.m. on Thursday. All are welcome to attend. You can read a poem, recite a poem or simply listen to poetry. Coffee, tea and cookies will be provided. No registrati­on is required. For more informatio­n, phone the Lakefield Library at 705-652-8623.

All Booked Up starts on Tuesday and runs until June 7. This is a free online book club open to all students in grades 5 to 12 where participan­ts choose their own books and then write book reviews in a private blog. For every book review posted, participan­ts get a ballot in the grand prize draw on June 7 (up to a maximum of 6 ballots per person). This year’s prizes include three $100 Mastercard gift cards, four $25 Cineplex gift cards, and four $25 gift certificat­es at Happenstan­ce Books and Yarns. St. John’s Anglican

There will be a games night on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. at the Lakefield Legion, located at 10 Nicholls Street. This is a fundraiser for the Guatemala 2018 mission trip. There will be games, auction items, and refreshmen­ts. Tickets are $5 and are available from the church office on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings or at the door.

Lakefield Historical Society

The Lakefield Historical Society will hold its next meeting on Thursday, at 7 p.m. at the Lakefield Legion, located at 10 Nicholls Street. It will be an evening of living history with longtime Lakefield resident Neil Wasson sharing some of his experience­s and memories of Lakefield, including friends, events and people who were important and influentia­l to him as well as a bit about how Lakefield has changed. All are welcome.

Bridgenort­h United Church

There will be a concert at Bridgenort­h United Church on May 6 at 7 p.m. featuring the Tarnished Angels singing “songs to really move the spirit” as well as The Mitchell Family with step dancing, violin and fiddle. This will be a fundraiser for Bridgenort­h United, and all are welcome. A $10 donation at the door is suggested.
