Trent Swim Club swimmer Even Feick advances to Canadian junior nationals
The Trent Swim Club Torpedoes from Peterborough was among more than 100 clubs from Ontario, Quebec and the Maritime provinces that competed at the 2018 Speedo Eastern Canadian championships held over the weekend at the Windsor Aquatic Complex.
About 850 swimmers competed over four days of competition requiring national standards. Trent swim club swimmer Evan Feick had an outstanding meet with three individual swims and three respective finals in the 50, 100 and 200 metre breaststroke. Feick was third in the B final of the 200 breaststroke and set a new club record of 2:31.99 for 15-17 age group. This performance also met the standard for another national meet the Canadian Junior championships in July.
Feick finished first of the B finalists of the 100 breaststroke setting a second club record in the process at 1:09.36, while qualifing for a second swim at the Canadian Junior championships. In the 50 breaststroke, open category, Evan qualified for the A final finishing sixth overall amongst all age groups and qualified for the Ontario Junior International at the Toronto Pan Am pool in December.
Feick’s performances led the club to a combined team score that placed the club in the Top 50 in the male division.
Also over the weekend, the Orangeville Otters hosted their launch into long course invitational. About 750 swimmers representing 11 clubs were hosted by the Markham Pan Am pool. Leading the way for the Trent swimmers was 13-year-old Maxeen Mullen, winning the 400 individual medley, placing second in 200 breaststroke and third in the 200 individual medley, and was top ten in the 200 butterfly. Finishing closely behind Mullen was Tanner Harris Barton, placing third in the 100 breast, and in the Top 10 in 200 backstroke, 100 fly, 100 freestyle and 200 individual medley.
Teammate Patrick Turner, was third in the 1500 freestyle, and placed top ten in the 100 breast, 200 freestyle, 400 freestyle and the 200 individual medley.
Rowan Campbell, 10, had a strong long course debut with placings in the Top 10 for 50 breast, 100 breast, 200 breast and 50 backstroke.
Owen Cecile, 14, had a strong weekend with Top 10 placings in the 200 backstroke, 100 breaststroke, 400 individual medley and the 200 individual medley.
Also finishing in the Top 10 for Trent swim club were Kelly Mitchell (400 individual medley), Alison Becker (50 backstroke), Logan Garside (50 breaststroke, 50 freestyle), Kate Hopkins (50 breaststroke), Bethany Kortun (400 freestyle), Emma Kortun
(800 freestyle), John Mitchell (100 breaststroke), Macy Mullen (100 backstroke), Adam Voutier (50 butterfly).
