Sports Camp Canada will be hosting its first Nike Elite Soccer Training Camp in Canada at the Fleming Sport Complex in Peterborough from July 9 to 13.

The camp is for youth soccer players aged 10 to 17 who are already playing a high level of competitive soccer.

Sports Camp Canada is the official operator of Nike Sports Camps in Canada. It was founded in 2015 and started with tennis and multi-sport camps and has just recently added soccer along with basketball and golf camps, program manager Kristy Piper said.

Two other soccer camps will also be offered in Toronto, Piper said but they are for players of all skill levels.

Rianna Poskin, a Peterborough City Soccer Association volunteer coach, says the camp being offered in Peterborough will teach those who attend what it takes to succeed not only in the sport but using the lessons they learn in life as well.

Poskin played NCAA Division II soccer for the University of Pittsburgh and went on to become the university’s assistant coach for several years while going through school.

“One of the things that we are going to cover at the camp is nutrition, that’s something that doesn’t get talked about often enough but it’s such an important part of playing,” Poskin said.

Staff at the Peterborough camp will include California University men’s soccer head coach Emedin Sabic, FC Durham co-founder and academy manager Rich Hurst, FC Durham technical director Steve Simmonds, FC Durham assistant girls director of coaching Sylvia Forbs, Newbury College (South Carolina) sophomore goalkeeper Madison Putman, Hot Yoga Peterborough director Laura Nugent and personal trainer wellness specialist Brian Nugent.

Check in will be at 8 a.m. July 9 at the field house located between the two artificial turf fields of the complex located at 599 Brealey Dr. in the city’s southwest end.

The camp will include technical and tactical training, speed and agility training, a yoga for soccer athletes workshop and a nutrition learning session at lunch.

Registration for full day is $565 for an individual and is $3,605 for a team (minimum of seven players, larger teams are asked to phone).

People can register online at www.sportscampscanada.com by going to Select Your Sport and clicking Soccer then going day Nike soccer camps and heading to the bottom of the page.
