Norwood, Hastings streets lined in pink
RBC branches support Day of Pink and new Norwood Hospice, and pay tribute to Humboldt Broncos
The staff at the Norwood and Hastings branches of the Royal Bank has been very involved with several important initiatives over the last few weeks, including the international Pink Day on April 11.
Last year the staff at both branches was asked to come up with an idea that would get the community involved in the international Day of Pink, an anti-bullying awareness initiative started in Nova Scotia.
Norwood Branch’s Kim Patterson came up with an idea that would involve decorating the local store fronts with pink balloons for the day; she and her Hastings counterpart Cindy Sparks approached the townships and merchants in each village with her idea.
The result was that for the past two years the main streets in Norwood and Hastings have been festooned with about 700 pink balloons for the Day of Pink. Staff at both branches blow up the balloons, decorate each business in the morning and remove the balloons in the evening.
Manager (for both branches) Ed Hischer remarked how it really was a pleasure to hear stories about how people travelling along County Road 45 have acknowledged how nice it is to not only see this in Norwood but then drive into Hastings to see it continued there. A special thank you goe s to all of the merchants in both communities for helping to make it possible.
Staff at the Norwood, Hastings and Warkworth Branches also joined with the rest of Canada on April 12 in Jersey Day, a day of support and mourning for the heartbreaking loss of life and for everyone touched by the tragic accident in Humboldt Saskatchewan.
Canadians (and others) were encouraged to wear a hockey jersey for the day as a symbol of support and solidarity for the Humboldt Broncos Hockey Team. A special thank you goes out to Greg Hartwick in Norwood and Anne-Marie Switzer in Warkworth; they organized to get the jerseys for the RBC staff to wear.
Last but not least, the Norwood
RBC has for several years hosted a “work party” of sorts where the Norwood staff gathers on a weekend to work for a local charitable cause; RBC then follows with a cash donation of $1,000. Norwood’s new hospice was the beneficiary this year, with staff spending a recent Saturday cleaning bricks at the future site of the hospice.
