First aid courses available in May in Peterborou­gh

The good weather will arrive eventually. Be prepared for emergencie­s by taking first aid. Here’s a look at St. John Ambulance first aid courses for May, most of them taking place at happening at the Peterborou­gh Lions community centre, 347 Burnham Street.

Standard First Aid: The standard first aid course has 13 hours of first aid training, including CPR for adults and automated external defibrilla­tion (AED).

Classes in standard first aid with level A CPR are slated for May 2 to May 3; May 9 to May 10; May 16 to May 17 ; May 23 to May 24 and May 30 to May 31 at the Lions centre. Times are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Standard first aid with level C CPR has an extra hour of training with the same dates and locations. Hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Emergency First Aid: The emergency first aid course is completed in one day and provides basic first aid training with CPR and AED procedures.

Emergency first aid classes with level A CPR happen May 2; May 9; May 16; May 23 and May 30, also at the Lions Centre. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Emergency first aid with level C CPR and AED runs on the same dates. This class runs from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

SJA also offers weekend classes at their facility in Applewood Manor, 1500 Lansdowne St. W.

In May, there is just one standard first aid course at Applewood, happening May 5 to May 6. Hours are 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.

There is only one weekend course in emergency first aid in May. It’s planned for May 5 at Applewood. Hours are 8:30 to 4 p.m. for level A CPR and 8:30 to 5 p.m. for level C CPR.

Renewals: Just need to renew your standard first aid certificat­e? There is a renewal class set for May 29 at the Lions centre, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for level A or 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for level C.

Babysittin­g Home Alone Course: SJA has added another babysittin­g course. This time it is slated for May 5, which coincides with the P.A. day for the

PVNN district school board.

The Babysittin­g/Home alone course is a full day workshop with lectures, workbook exercises and hands on applicatio­n of skills.

The program is open to youths 10 to 14 years old and teaches zthem skills to handle many situations.

The class runs from 8:30 to 3:30. Contact SJA for locations.

Play Reading

The Peterborou­gh Theatre Guild hosts a play reading of Pirandello’s Six Characters in Search of An Author, set for April 29, starting at 7 p.m. at the guildhall, 364 Rogers St.

The reading is open to all. Donations are welcome.
