High waters pose a safety risk in area

With the recent ice and snow storm and resulting melt, local waterways are noticeably higher than normal. Take care with children and pets to avoid a tragedy.

While the Weather Network keeps reminding us that the cooler weather will be staying until the middle of May, we can only hope that we’ve seen the last of the snow and ice for this season. The sound of a lawnmower is tempting right now!

At the Legion

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 497 will hold jams April 28 and May 12 beginning at 1 p.m. Refreshmen­ts available. Come and enjoy the music or bring your non-acoustic instrument and join in the fun. For further informatio­n call Jim at 705-799-6912.

The May 12 jam will wind up in style. Tickets are $15 per person which includes 1 pound of wings and a side of fries. Additional food will be available for sale. The jam will run from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Tickets are now on sale for the Johnny Cash tribute at the Legion, June 22. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the Legion or by calling 705-934-5095.

The Legion will hold a flea market, May 26, 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. with various vendors and yard sale items.

Spring fashions

Bethel United Church, 90 Bethel Rd., will hold Spring Fashions featuring fashions from Style Boutique of Bridgenort­h, May 8. Refreshmen­ts at 7 p.m. with the show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available at Fresh Country Market, Fowlers Corners or by calling Marilyn at 705-799-8118.

Mount Horeb

Mount Horeb Ladies’ Group will hold a Welcome Spring luncheon, 117 Hillhead Rd., April 28, 11 a.m.- 1 p.m. The luncheon is $7. There will be baked items for sale as well.

Lions

The Omemee Lions Club will hold an e-waste and textile collection, May 5, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Omemee Curling Centre. If you are a business or senior needing items picked up call Ben at 705-799-0916 or Patrick 705761-9292.

There will be a barbecue for your enjoyment.

Community Care

The Community Care of City of Kawartha Lakes offers many invaluable services to the residents of our area. The office number is 705-324-7323.

Footcare is available to seniors and residents with special needs. An appointmen­t is necessary and can be made by calling 705-879-4100 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The clinic is held at Remedy RX, 108 Kent St.W., Lindsay. Upcoming clinic is April 24.

Meals on Wheels are available at a nominal cost for residents of Omemee and Downeyvill­e. .

A caregiver support group for those assisting someone with a terminal or life limiting disease will be held at 2 Kent St. W., April 25, 2-3:30 p.m. Call ext. 503 for details or to register.

For those living with illness a support group will be held at 2 Kent St. W., April 23 at 2 p.m.
