Sheila Wood announces Peterborough council bid
Sheila Wood is running for council.
The former DBIA manager announced Monday that she will run in Ashburnham Ward in this fall’s municipal election.
“This city needs communication, commitment and a strong vision for the future,” Wood stated in a release. “More than ever before the community’s voice is needed on council to go forward with sustainable initiatives for now and for the future of our children and grandchildren.”
Wood is opposed to the proposed sale of Peterborough Distribution Inc. to Hydro One. She says she’ll work for expanded affordable housing and believes in more promotion of sports tourism for the city. She also wants to be a strong advocate for Ashburnham Ward residents.
“When I am councillor the revitalization of the downtowns in Ashburnham and in the city core will always be on the agenda,” she stated.
Now retired from her marketing company, Woodsend Consultants, Wood ran for mayor in 1998 and as the Peterborough NDP candidate in the 2014 Ontario election. She’s married with three adult children.
Wood said she’ll file her nomination papers Tuesday, the first day candidates can do so. Others in the 2018 hoping to get on council for the first time:
