Thomas A. Stewart Griffins archers won the Monsen’s Sporting Goods Trophy as top team at the local high school archery championships held Wednesday at the Morrow Building.

There were more than 90 competitors from eight area high schools competing in both recurve and compound divisions.

While shooting for individual medals they were also shooting to secure points for their school.

In the compound girls class, it was a sweep by Thomas A. Stewart with Paige Allen taking the gold medal for a second straight year followed by Maddie Heard in second and Alyssa Sharrard in third.

In the boys compound class Seth Kirschner from Crestwood placed first, Mason Walker from Holy Cross was second and Alex Matherus from Adam Scott was third.

In the girls recurve A division, Mackenzie Costello from Kenner was first followed by Lauren Styoles from Adan Scott in second and Megan Buxton, also from Kenner, was third.

In the boys recurve A division it was Zac Langley from I.E. Weldon in first, David McGee from Holy Cross second and Marly Greavesin third from TASSS.

The girls recurve B division had Victoria Thiodeau from Adam Scott in first place followed by Becky McIlmoyle from Kenner and in third was Beth Vreudenhil of Adam Scott.

In the boys recurve B division Jonathan Sutton-Browning took the gold for Kenner while Ty Visonti from St. Peter’s second and Michael Whatman was third.

In the quest for the Monsen’s Sporting Goods High School Championship Trophy the 94 archers added points to their school’s totals by the position they finished in each division. Once again, this year Thomas A. Stewart finished in first place and the bragging rights to house the trophy until next year’s tournament. There was only one point between second place Crestwood and Kenner and Adam Scott who tied for third place.

The tourney was also the qualifier for the Ontario High School Archery Championships in Richmond Hill on May 16 and 17.
