Buffalo Bandits, Toronto Rock fail to make playoffs
NLL ROUNDUP: Georgia, Rochester, New England qualify for Eastern Division playoffs
The Georgia Swarm downed the New England Black Wolves 16-11 on Sunday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Ct. to finish the regular season at 11-7 for first place in the National Lacrosse League’s Eastern Division.
The Black Wolves fell to 9-9 for third place and face the secondplace Rochester Knighthawks (10-8) on Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Rochester in NLL Eastern Division semifinal.
Rochester 15 Buffalo 13
BUFFALO – Peterborough’s Shawn Evans and the Buffalo Bandits were eliminated from playoff contention with a 15-13 loss to Rochester on Saturday at the Key Center Arena in Buffalo.
Evans scored his 400th NLL career goal and had three goals and an assist. Peterborough’s Thomas Hoggarth had a goal for the Bandits and Laker Mark Steenhuis had two assists.
Peterborough’s Jake Withers had a goal for Rochester as did Laker Cory Vitarelli and Peterborough’s Josh Currier had two assists.
Buffalo outshot Rochester and Laker Matt Vinc kept Rochester in the game with 45 saves on 58 shots.
Saskatchewan 11 Calgary 10
SASKATOON — Ben McIntosh scored four times and added two assists to lead the Saskatchewan Rush past the Calgary Roughnecks 11-10 on Saturday in National Lacrosse League action.
Mark Matthews scored and added six assists for Saskatchewan (14-4).
Peterborough Laker Evan Kirk made 36 saves for the win.
Laker Holden Cattoni had four goals and an assist for Calgary (8-10) and former Laker Curtis Dickson had a hat trick and four assists.
Colorado 19 Toronto 15
DENVER — Jeremy Noble, Eli McLaughlin, Joey Cupido and Zack Greer each had a hat trick as the Colorado Mammoth topped the Toronto Rock 19-15 on Saturday in National Lacrosse League action.
Peterborough native Brad Self scored for Colorado (11-7).
Peterborough Laker Adam Jones had a hat trick and three assists, while Brett Hickey and Reid Reinholdt each had a pair of goals for Toronto.
Dillon Ward made 42 saves for the win.
The loss eliminated Toronto from the NLL playoffs.
Georgia 11 Vancouver 10
DULUTH, Ga. — Shayne Jackson had a hat trick and added four assists as the Georgia Swarm edged the Vancouver Stealth 11-10 on Saturday in National Lacrosse League action.
Colorado (11-7) hosts Calgary (8-10) in the Western Division semifinal at 9 p.m. Eastern at the Pepsi Center in Denver.
NOTE: Former Laker Curtis Dickson finished the season seventh in scoring at 47-45—92, Laker Adam Jones was ninth at 37-52—89 and Laker Shawn Evans was 14th at 34-49—83.
