Omemee Blooms ready for another colourful spring

April showers bring May flowers. I’m not sure what April snow brought, but we’ll find out. To that end, the Omemee Blooms will hold its annual plant sale at the Legion, May 19, 9-11 a.m.

Bring your own containers for your purchases of perennials, grasses, tomatoes including many heirlooms, vegetables and shrubs.

There will be two plants of the year from the brocade series of geraniums. These plants boast beautiful foliage.

Legion music

The Royal Canadian Legion

Branch 497 will hold its last jam of the season, May 12, 11 a.m.-10 p.m. Come and enjoy the music or bring your non-acoustic instrument and join in the fun.

This jam will wind up the season in style. Tickets are $15 per person which includes 1 pound of wings and a side of fries. Additional food will be available for sale. The jam will run from 11 a.m. – 10 p.m.

Spring fashion

Bethel United Church, 90 Bethel Rd., will hold Spring Fashions featuring fashions from Style Boutique of Bridgenort­h, May 8. Refreshmen­ts at 7 p.m. with the show at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 and available at Fresh Country Market, Fowlers Corners or by calling Marilyn at 705-799-8118.

Ham supper

Janetville United Church, 712 Janetville Rd. will hold a ham supper Saturday, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Adults, $15; children, 6 yrs-12 yrs, $7; 5 yrs and under, free.

The church will hold their annual yard sale, May 11, 5-9 p.m.; May 12, 7 a.m.- 1 p.m.; May 13, noon-2 p.m., fill a box for $5. If you have items for donation you can drop off at the Thrift Shop or call for pickup, 705-324-4006.

Lions

The Omemee Lions Club will hold an e-waste and textile collection, Saturday, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Omemee Curling Centre. If you are a business or senior needing items picked up call Ben at 705-799-0916 or Patrick 705-761-9292.

There will be a barbecue.

The Omemee Curling Centre will hold a yard sale, 8 a.m.-2 p.m. the same day. If you have items to drop off at the Centre someone will be there May 2 and 4, 6-8 p.m. Pickup can be arranged by emailing omemeecurl­ing@gmail.com

Community care

The Community Care of City of Kawartha Lakes offers many invaluable services to the residents of our area. The office number is 705-3247323.

The Diners’ Club Seniors’ luncheon will be held in conjunctio­n with the Omemee Lioness, Thursday at noon, Christ Church Anglican, 62 King St. E. Call the office to reserve a seat.

Meals on Wheels are available at a nominal cost for residents of Omemee and Downeyvill­e.

A caregiver support group for those assisting someone with a terminal or life limiting disease will be held at 2 Kent St. W., May 9, 10-11:30 a.m., May 23, 2-3:30 p.m. Call ext. 503 for details or to register.
