Free grandstand admission at Saturday’s Speedway opener
The countdown is nearly over and the time has come to kick the new year into gear.
Peterborough Speedway rolls its 2018 schedule to the starting line with the Country 105 Season Opener – featuring free spectator grandstand admission – on Saturday.
Track owner/promoter J.P. Josiasse and the team at the Mount Pleasant Road track west of the city have put together an event calendar to satisfy the needs of even the most demanding race fan.
Getting things underway for the 51st consecutive season will be the Battlefield Equipment Rental Bone Stock, Jiffy Lube Mini Stock, Trent Lakes Complete Plumbing Renegade Truck, Super Stock and Late Model divisions.
Also on the card will be Trailers Plus Eastern Ontario Legends, with a Fan Appreciation autograph session at intermission. Pit gates will open at 12:30 p.m., with the spectator grandstands unlocked at 3 p.m. and 2018’s first green flag will hit the track at 5 p.m.
“After an amazing 50th anniversary season, everyone is excit- ed to get the new schedule off and rocking,” J.P. Josiasse said.
“We have some big events set to roll throughout the year, including the return of the Ontario Pro Challenge, OSCAAR Modifieds and Pro Midgets, APC Pro Late Model, Lucas Oil Sportsman Cup, Ontario Modifieds Racing Series, Can-Am TQ Midget tours and the Peterborough Speedway debut of the Ontario Outlaw Super Late Models.”
Josiasse also pointed out that the home track favourite Late Model, Mini Stock, Super Stock and Bone Stock classes will run 50 lap main events on June 2, June 23, July 7 and Aug. 11 respectively. The Canadian Legend Car Asphalt Nationals’ finale is slated for July 14. Summer Toonie Nights – presented by Pepsi, with $2.00 grandstand admission – return June 2, July 7 and Aug. 25.
NOTE: The spotlight event of the 26th annual Autumn Colours Classic – Oct. 5 to 7 – will be the inaugural running of the Electric City 167 – a combined Late Model/Pro Late Model headliner – scheduled for an Oct. 7 green flag.
