Dirty Enduro now at Harold Town Conservation Area

- MARISSA LENTZ SPECIAL TO THE EXAMINER

The annual Dirty Enduro mountain bike racing event will be held at a new location this year.

The annual fundraiser for the Canadian Mental Health Association, Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge will take place Aug. 18 at 9 a.m. at the Harold Town Conservation Area, just east of Peterborough in OtonabeeSouth Monaghan Township.

It includes a 12- and 24-kilometre loop for ages 13 and over, as well as a special Shimano sponsored children’s event for ages 12 and under.

Sponsored by Ben and Ashley Logan of Fontaine Source for Sports, the event gives people who are new to mountain biking the opportunity to join riders that are more experienced for a fun day on the trails, all in support of mental health.

“It was always Ben’s dream to be able to bring our event to Harold Town,” said Kerri Davies, manager of community engagement at CMHA HKPR.

Ben was involved with the event last year at the Ganaraska Forest in Northumberland County.

“It’s affected our family personally and it’s something that we feel is important to support,” he said.

Ashley said she has personally used some of the local resources.

“The CMHA is a wonderful thing and it needs support,” she said.

This year’s proceeds will be given to CMHA HKPR’s Kids on the Block Program — a children’s education program that focuses on children’s wellness and in particular mental health.

The program is delivered using life-size puppets in schools, libraries and community centres addressing topics such as bullying, building resilience and the importance of physical activity.

Medals will be awarded to the top finishers in each category of the event.

The top adult and child fundraiser will receive a prize.

Additionally, for every $100 raised, riders will receive an entry for a chance to win a bonus prize.

Interested riders can register online or in person on the day of the event at 2611 Old Norwood Rd.
