Saints march to All Catholic Field Lacrosse Championship
St. Peter boys field lacrosse team in hunt for gold at OFSAA next month
The St. Peter Saints varsity boys field lacrosse team won the All Catholic Field Lacrosse Championship in Georgetown Tuesday.
It was the varsity Saints’ third straight tournament championship this season. The Saints’ overall record nows stands at 15 wins and one loss.
In the gold medal Division I championship game, the Saints defeated St. Michael’s College JV (Toronto) 13-1.
Holden Lowes and Kaleb Hiltz each fired four goals and added one assist. Kalvyn Watson scored once and added four assists. Nolan Burke had a goal and two assists. Tyson Pearce, Matt McKnight and Sam Moloney each scored once. Frank Coyle and Tyler Clark each recorded an assist.
In their semifinal game, the Saints defeated St. Mary of Owen Sound 9-4. St. Mary is coached by Peterborough Laker and Toronto Rock star Adam Jones.
Watson fired three goals and added one assist. Nathan Allan scored two goals and added two assists. Burke scored once and added 2 assists. Keegan Walton, Coyle and Hiltz each scored once. Moloney recorded an assist.
In their opening game, St. Peter defeated Bishop Reding of Milton 10-2. Coyle scored twice. Watson, Pearce and Moloney each scored once and added one assist. Single goals went to Allan, Burke, Hiltz, Charlie Kangas and Drew Stojan.
The next action for the Saints will be at the OFSAA AAA Championships in Ottawa from June 4 to 6. The Saints have won the OFSAA AAA silver medal for the last three years and are looking to win gold this season.
“We have the team to win gold this season,” said Saints head coach Rod McGillis. “We have a strong team with a lot of talent and determination. We are looking forward to the challenge of going for the OFSAA AAA gold.”
