Board games, candy and more at new Lakefield store

- STUART HARRISON

Sweet Competition is as new store in Lakefield. Located in the Julienne’s Plaza, Sweet Competition features games, puzzles, candy, soda pop, fudge, toys, popcorn and more.

Owner Troy Phillips says they stock hundreds of familiar family games like Yahtzee, Monopoly, and Taboo, and lots of new games as well.

The candy section has a real traditional feel to it with some old familiar theatre candy and names like Milk Duds, and the pop selection is extensive with lines from Frosty, Fluids Soda, Jarrito’s and Avery’s which includes flavours such as Bug Barf, Dog Drool, and Toxic Slime.

Check it out at 3347 Lakefield Road. Call 705-652-1342 or find them on Facebook.

Gauvreau moves

Robert Gauvreau and Associates recently announced that the accounting firm will be moving from the current location on Hunter St., next to Quaker Oats, to 150 King St., which houses the post office at the corner of King and George.

Owner Bob Gauvreau says the move is triggered by the rapid growth of the company, and the King St. location will allow them to continue that growth and attract top talent to the firm, which specializes in accounting, tax, advisory and consulting services. The move will take place later this year. Visit Gauvreaucpa.ca

New kind of camp

Tony Smith

Tony Smith was a well known and respected businessman in Peterborough.

Tony passed away a few months ago, leaving his mark on numerous businesses and business people, as well as the Chamber of Commerce, and perhaps ultimately on VIA Rail. Tony chaired the Shining Waters Rail organization which triggered a plan by VIA Rail to introduce passenger rail service between Quebec City, Montreal, Ottawa, and Toronto, through Peterborough. To honor Tony, the Chamber of Commerce is dedicating its annual golf tournament to Tony’s memory, and VIA Rail is donating 10 $250 travel vouchers as door prizes. It should be a great day, June 13 at Kawartha Golf, sponsored by Grant Thornton. To register visit peterboroughchamber.ca
