Snofest Idol winner to perform June 8 in Lakefield

Amy Sarginson will perform on June 8 at Christ Church Community Museum in Lakefield. Amy was the winner of Peterborou­gh Snofest Idol and will be singing and playing the keyboard, guitar and ukulele. Tickets are $15 and are available at Happenstan­ce in Lakefield. Refreshmen­ts will be served. For more informatio­n, call 705-652-7535.

Lakefield Farmers’ Market

The Lakefield Farmers’ Market is now open for the season. The market will be every Thursday until Oct. 4 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the parking lot of the Lakefield-Smith Community Centre, located at 20 Concession St. in Lakefield. This year’s vendors will include Mclean Berry Farm, The Lakefield Pantry, OtonoBEE Apiary, Hard Winter Bread, the Nourish Project, Kawartha Winery, and many more local artisans and farmers.

Turtle conservati­on

The Ontario Turtle Conservati­on Centre will present at the Marshland Centre in Lakefield at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. Learn to identify Ontario’s eight turtle species and about the threats to turtle population­s and what the “species at risk” designatio­n in Ontario means. This is a partnershi­p with Imagine the Marsh, second generation.

Lakefield United Church

There will be an indoor yard sale on June 1 from 1 to 8 p.m. and June 2 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Lakefield United Church, located at 47 Regent Street. There will be yard sale items, baking, books and much more. All proceeds support the United Church general fund.

Community Care

On May 24, Lakefield Legion Branch 77 President Jim Marsden presented the annual Poppy Fund Donation to Community Care Buckhorn, Chemung and Lakefield. The entire Community Care County Services Team gratefully received $4,500 to enhance home support services; helping local individual­s and caregivers maintain their independen­ce and dignity.

Indian River Band

The Indian River Band will perform at the Lakefield Legion at 7:30 p.m. on June 16. The Legion is located at 10 Nicholls St. and tickets will cost $15 each. There will be a raffle, cash bar, and snacks. This is a fundraiser to support medical expenses for Maureen Boyes and her family. Tickets are available by phoning 705-875-7990.

Lakefield Historical Society

The Lakefield Historical Society will hold its next meeting on Thursday at 7 p.m. in the Lakefield Legion Branch #77. The guest speaker will be former Judge Ted Collins who will speak about the life and memories of Bill Grant, a County Lawyer and Reeve of Lakefield for 13 years. All are welcome.
