Cody Crowley’s next fight won’t be too far from home.

The Douro native has signed to fight on the Hometown Heroes card July 14 at Belleville’s Yardmen Arena. An opponent for Crowley, who is 14-0 with 7 knockouts, has not been confirmed.

Earlier this month, Crowley won the Canadian Professional Boxing Council’s super-welterweight national title with a 10round unanimous decision over Hamilton’s Kevin Higson at the Memorial Centre. It was his third consecutive bout in his hometown.

Crowley said Belleville native and former Canadian heavyweight champion Dillon (Big Country) Carman is trying to follow his recent success of hosting cards in his hometown. He approached Crowley for some assistance on how to promote the show.

“At first, I didn’t really want to fight again so close to home,” said Crowley, ‘but he asked for some help and we started talking. I thought I might as well fight on the show if I’m going to help him out.”

Crowley said he’s in talks with a U.S. network about fighting on a televised show in the fall and sees a July bout as an opportunity to stay sharp.

“I just agreed to fight on the card this week and the matchmaker has not started to look for an opponent, yet,” said Crowley. “I think it will just be another fight for me to keep busy and add another win to my record.”

Another Quinte region boxer, Tim Cronin, will also box on the six-bout card. The event is being promoted by Valhalla’s Gate Promotions Ltd and the Belleville Senators.

The evening will, which begins at 7 p.m., will also feature live music from two-time Juno nominee Karl Wolf. Former Canadian heavyweight champion George Chuvalo will be a special guest, according to a press release.

Tickets, starting at $39 plus service charge, go on sale Wednesday through Ticketmaster. Tables on the floor are sold as 10 seats. Tables in the Fan Zone and Mezzanine are sold as four seats.
