Lynn Gehl to speak at library event
Lynn Gehl, an Algonquin Anishinaabe advocate, artist and writer will be giving a talk on Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Peterborough Public Library, 345 Aylmer St. The event, titled When Canada Targeted Indigenous Children/Mothers,
Lynn Stood Up!, also features an opening and teaching by Alice Olsen Williams.
Gehl, who holds a PhD in Indigenous Studies, will be discussing her 32-year journey challenging sex discrimination in the Indian Act and insights she has learned about oppressive power, Canada’s Parliament, and the Department of Justice.

Election meetings
There are two election meetings taking place in the Town Ward this week. Both events are free, and all are welcome. Tonight, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Holiday Inn, 150 George St., the Peterborough Sales and Ad Club presents an election debate between the local NDP, Liberal and Conservative party candidates, and moderated by Vince Bierworth of Country 105 & Energy 99.7.
On Thursday, from 6 to 8 p.m., an All-Candidates Meeting, sponsored by the Trent University Faculty Association, CUPE 3908 and the Peterborough District Labour Council, is scheduled at McDonnel Street Activity Centre, 577 McDonnel St.
Taste of Downtown
The Downtown Business Improvement Area (DBIA) presents Taste of Downtown, Saturday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event takes place on Charlotte Street, between Aylmer and George Streets, and features samples from local restaurants, a beer and wine garden, sidewalk sales, live music, local art and activities for the whole family. Glow Ride
Join B!KE, the Peterborough Community Cycling Hub, for a Glow Ride on Saturday evening. This event celebrates 100In1Day and International Trails Day. Decorate your bike with glow sticks and battery powered LEDs and join in a community ride.
A white front light and red tail light is required for all riders; helmets are strongly encouraged. The ride leaves the alley behind B!KE, 293 George St., at 9 p.m. and will loop into Jackson Park, along the Parkway Trail, and back downtown along the Rotary Trail. All Saints’ Church
All Saints’ Anglican Church Choir will be singing Vivaldi’s Gloria, Sunday at 10:30 a.m., during the Eucharist service. All are invited. Gloria is one of the best loved choral works of the Italian Baroque period and was written for Vivaldi’s choir at the orphanage Pio Ospedale della Pieta.
