A hot summer expected in Peterborough
Beaches along Little Lake were humming Monday as people looked for ways to stay cool.
Rogers Cove and Beavermead Park beaches were both abuzz during the 29 C heat, which felt more like 34 C with the humidex.
They’ll likely stay that way too, for most of the summer, at least.
Temperatures are anticipated to be warmer this year than last, according to The Weather Network.
The network recently released its Summer Forecast for June, July and August.
The southern Ontario region is expected to see more hot weather than 2017, particularly over the first half of the summer.
That said, the hottest weather will be in western Canada for 2018.
Meanwhile, the second half of the summer will see several periods of cooler weather.
The changeable pattern and availability of copious Gulf moisture should result in above normal precipitation due to rounds of thunderstorms across the region.
There’s also a potential for cooler weather to arrive sooner than normal, with a premature fall in the cards.
That’ll threaten an early end to the growing season, network experts say.
A high of 27 C and a low of 12 C is forecast for Tuesday in Peterborough and the Kawarthas and then a high of 29 C Wednesday.. Temperatures cool down as the week progresses, with a high of 25 C Thursday, 23 C Friday and Saturday and 22 C Sunday.
A wet weekend is ahead with a chance of showers starting Thursday night and then through to Sunday, according to Environment Canada’s forecast.
