Art project ‘unmasks’ brain injury patients
The Brain Injury Association Peterborough Region (BIAPR) will be launching its Unmasking Brain Injury Project on Friday.
Masks created by 12 members and clients of the organization have been selected to be displayed in BIAPR’s storefront window located at 158 Charlotte St.
Teryl Hoefel, executive director of the BIAPR, will be present to talk about the project and its impact on survivors, family, friends and the community.
“It’s been a very powerful project for us to do with our members and clients,” Hoefel said.
June is Brain Injury Awareness Month and the project is a province-wide initiative.
“People living with brain injuries are making the invisible, visible by unmasking their stories through a public artistic display of masks that represent their personal journeys,” the organization stated in a release.
The project aims to increase awareness and foster understanding of what it is like to live with a brain injury.
PSAs showing the individual’s masks along with their stories will be advertised on YourTV throughout the month of June.
BIAPR will have a booth outside their storefront as they participate in the Taste of Downtown event on Saturday.
