Sports, crafts and more at fun summer camps
This summer, the
Fleming Knights Athletic Department along with the Peterborough Sport & Wellness Centre, 775 Brealey Dr., will host two High Performance soccer and basketball camps for young athletes aged 10 to 15 years old.
The High Performance soccer camp will run from August 13 to 17 for those aged 10 to 15. The High Performance basketball camp will run from July 16 to 20 for those aged 10 to 12 and from July 23 to 27 for those aged 13 to 15.

Fleming Knights will also host a co-ed High School Summer Basketball League from now until August 2 for athletes in Grades 9 to 12 on Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., as well as a Men’s Summer Basketball League, for those aged 18 and up from June 12 to Aug. 21 on Tuesdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., also at the Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre. Otonabee summer camps
For the sixth season, the Kawartha Potters’ Guild, 993 Talwood Dr. will be offering their popular Kids Clay and Play fun, active summer day camp which runs in oneweek sessions starting from July 9 until the week of Aug. 20, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. daily, at a cost of $220 per week, all materials included, with extended hours available.
Children aged 6 to 12 will create pottery that they can take home at the end of the week, participate in drama, games and outdoor activities. Special activities this year include paper making, weaving and gourd masks and critters, depending on the week selected. The Peterborough Sport and Wellness Centre, is holding its day camps with the theme, “Come for the Fun, Stay for the Friends.” Children aged four to 15 years of age can participate in recreation, sports, art, drama, music, dance, outdoor excursions and a daily recreational swim. Participants can choose any time period from one week and more, from July 2 until Aug. 30, from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. daily.
The cost ranges from $70 to $195 per week per child for members and from $140 to $195 per week for non-members. Some of this year’s themes are Beach Party, Art Attack, Guy Zone, Under the Big Top, Wild Zoofari, Mad Science and more. New this year, you can receive 50 per cent off camp fees if you have a one-year child or family membership. The Early Bird Program provides care from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. for families who require it. Paddling Camps at the Canadian Canoe Museum, 910 Monaghan Rd.: campers will learn to steer and safely manoeuvre their own canoe, under programs by the Ontario Recreational Canoeing and Kayaking Association. The Basics of Canoeing – One Day Camp takes place on June 29 and July 18 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Peterborough Rowing Club, 3599 Nassau Mills Rd. This popular camp is for first-time paddlers, at a cost of $45.
Other camps include ORCKA Level 1 – Four Day Camp from July 3 to 6, also at the Peterborough Rowing Club, at a cost of $210 for kids aged 10 to 13 who learn the basics of canoeing, swimming, traditional craft and more.
