Residents honoured for hard work and dedication to their communities
The County of Peterborough hosted the annual recognition awards evening on May 25 at the Keene Arena. Each year the county recognizes nominees from the area for their special contributions in a number of different categories. This year featured four deserving winners from the Asphodel-Norwood.
The Norwood Fair received the accessibility recognition award, this county wide award is awarded to a single recipient each year that has contributed to accessibility improvements within the county. The Fair was recognized for various improvements in the past few years including state of the art fully accessible washrooms, ground access buildings, ramps, special hard surfaced paths through the grounds as well as providing paved handicap parking spots.
Tim and Annette Klompmaker and family received an agricultural award. Tim is a third-generation chicken farmer and along with his wife Annette and family strives to stay up to date with the latest farming technology and techniques to provide the most effective and highest level of care for their birds including upgrading their facilities with computer controlled climate and monitoring systems. The family has also started a project with 30 other farmers that will see the construction of a new hatchery using technology that is presently only used in three other facilities in the world.
Baily Baptie received Asphodel-Norwood’s leadership in arts and culture recognition. This award is presented to a group or individual who has demonstrated excellence in the arts and for bringing recognition to the county. Baily is an amazing young lady who started her own dance academy when she was 17 in 2015. She teaches students from age 3 to adult in a variety of dance styles from hip-hop to ballet. Baily also organizes and choreographs an annual dance recital for her students to demonstrate their new skills for their family and friends. Baily’s enthusiasm for dance and for engaging youth in the art of dance is most commendable.
