New kayak, antiques businesses now open in Omemee

Omemee has two new businesses, Salmon River Kayaks across from Emily Cemetery at the east end of town and Ben’s Fine Art and Antiques, 2 King St.W. in the former United Church manse.

The City of Kawartha Lakes Summer day camps run July 3-Aug. 24 for children six-12 yrs. You can register in person at the Parks and Recreation Office, 50 Wolfe St. or at Lindsay Recreation Complex, 133 Angeline St. S. Informatio­n is available by calling 705-324-9411 ext 1307.

There will be a fundraisin­g car wash, yard sale and barbecue June 16, 8 a.m. -2 p.m. at R & B Auto Sales, 103 King St.W.

Funds raised will help to fund Omemee Days, Canada Day weekend.

There will be many activities in the village June 30, July 1.

A BMX/scooter and skateboard competitio­n will be held at the beach, July 1 at 9 a.m.

Cutting Edge Landscapin­g and Excavating will sponsor a ball hockey tournament, June 30. Registrati­on is at 8:15 a.m. with the first game at 9 a.m. It will be a three on three with a goalie.

The Omemee Lioness will host their annual pancake breakfast at Coronation Hall, June 30, 8-11 a.m.

There will be the annual fireworks display at the beach, July 1 at dusk.

Tickets for this year’s Ducktona 700 duck race are selling fast. The race will take place June 30 at 1 p.m. at Mary St. bridge. You can purchase tickets at Coronation Hall Service Centre, local businesses or from a Lions’ member.

Tickets are $5 each and give you the chance to win $700 from C21 United, R.E. Brokerage, Omemee; a FitBit blaze from Glendarvon Farms, Cavan; 8 rounds of golf and a cart from Deer Run Golf Course; a blood pressure monitor donated by Countrysid­e Pharmacy and $100 from Aline Utility Ltd. Lindsay. The Dead last award for the slowest duck is $100 donated by Stoddart Funeral Home, Lindsay. Tickets sold out early last year. Tickets are now on sale for the Johnny Cash tribute at the Legion, June 22. Doors open at 6:30 p.m., show begins at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at the Legion or by calling 705-934-5095.

The Community Care of City of Kawartha Lakes offers many invaluable services to the residents of our area. The office number is 705-324-7323.

Footcare is available to seniors and residents with special needs. An appointmen­t is necessary and can be made by calling 705-8794100 from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The clinic is held at Remedy RX, 108 Kent St.W., Lindsay. Upcoming clinics are June 12, 19 and 26.

Meals on Wheels are available at a nominal cost for residents of Omemee and Downeyvill­e.

A caregiver support group for those assisting someone with a terminal or life-limiting disease will be held at 2 Kent St. W., June 13, 10-11:30 a.m. and June 27, 2-3:30 p.m. Call ext. 503 for details or to register.
