DeNoble off to play in Halifax
Logan DeNoble is looking forward to being reunited with former Peterborough Petes linemate Hunter Garlent.
DeNoble, 20, who completed his OHL career as captain of his hometown Petes, has committed to the
St. Mary’s Huskies. The Halifaxbased university is a perennial contender in the Atlantic University Sport (AUS) conference.
“I visited the city and the school and I just felt it was the right fit,” said DeNoble. “It’s a beautiful city and a great spot to be. I was very happy about everything that was said to me about where I was going to fit in and where I was going to play. We should have a pretty strong team.”
He was told he’ll play with Garlent, who he played with three years ago.
“When Hunter was in Peterborough we were really close and good friends. Having a familiar face down there, and a guy who I used to play on a line with who I’m going to have an opportunity to step in and be on his line again, was another big factor. It will make it an easier transition.”
DeNoble, coming off back-toback 30-plus goal seasons, got a taste of pro hockey this spring. He played three games for the ECHL’s Kansas City Mavericks following the Petes’ season.
“I was really happy with how I played and getting chances in pro hockey in my first few games was a good sign and helped build my confidence knowing I could potentially step up and play there,” he said.
DeNoble felt it was more prudent to complete his education first.
He’s enrolled in criminology courses and has interest in law enforcement. “Would I love to play pro hockey right now? Absolutely, but who knows what happens if I play pro without my schooling and I get hurt or things don’t work out and I have nothing to fall back on. I can use my OHL school package and play competitive hockey for four years and then play pro with a degree in my back pocket.”
The Petes' other graduating overage players have also committed for next season. Nikita Korostelev signed with the KHL’s CSKA Moskva. Alex Black committed to Laurier University.
