Something for everyone in Showplace lineup
Steve Earle, John McDermott, Liona Boyd, Roch Voisine
The 2018-19 Showplace Performance Centre season will feature a performance by rocker Steve Earle and the return of the traditional Celtic Family Christmas show by Natalie MacMaster, Donnell Leahy and Family.
On Monday, Showplace officials revealed the schedule for the downtown theatre’s upcoming season. Emily Martin, Showplace general manager, said the season is “huge” with a diverse lineup, adding she aimed to book something for everyone.
“And that’s a hard thing to do when you are putting together a program like this,” Martin said.
“We have an entertainment committee we work with. We are really lucky because they all bring different ideas and different views…it’s really great because it’s not all what one person likes because everyone in the community likes something different.”
Highlights of the season include performances by rocker Steve Earle and a Golden Girls puppet show, based on the hit television show.
“(It) was just at the Toronto Fringe Festival. That’s going to be wild,” Martin said.
Another highlight is the Ballet Jorgen performance of The Nutcracker. Auditions will be held to find local dancers for the chorus.
“Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy are back this year with their Christmas show because we had so many people requesting it over the last year,” Martin said.
