Third win in a row for Jr. Varsity Wolverines; Sr. Varsity fall to 0-4

The Peterborou­gh Wolverines faced another challengin­g set of football games in Week 4 of the Ontario Football Conference season.

The Bantam and Senior Varsity squads were finally home to face the Waterloo Predators at the Thomas A. Stewart Field on Saturday, while the Junior Varsity Wolverines travelled to Belleville on Sunday to face the newly formed Quinte Skyhawks.

The Bantams and Senior Varsity teams were unable to take advantage of being at home with both teams losing to the Predators. The Bantams lost 51-25 and the Sr. Varsity lost another last second game 16-12 to the Predators.

The Jr. Varsity squad was able to enjoy their third win in a row with a 29-17 victory over the Skyhawks, improving their record to 3-1.

In the Bantam contest both teams had an exciting first half with the Wolverines able to move the football on the ground with a strong running game in scoring 25 points. The Predators countered with a strong passing attack scoring 26 points to take a 26-25 lead at the half. The Predators made major adjustment­s at the half and basically shut the Wolverines down and continued their scoring to add another four touchdowns to hand the young Wolverines their third lost in four games 51-25.

Sam LeVassuer had two touchdowns for the Wolverines and Quintin Nattress and Joe Parsons had single touchdowns. Ryan Forsythe had a successful convert kick.

The Wolverines will be home this Saturday as all three Wolverines teams will host the Toronto Jr. Argos with the bantam game starting at 11 a.m.

In the Sr. Varsity game the Wolverines and Predators were engaged in another hard fought contest with the Predators taking an early lead on a field goal. Moments later Devon Vanbeek of the Wolverines was able to score a TD on a fantastic return of 115 yards off a missed field goal attempt by the Predators to give the Wolverines a 7-3 lead.

The teams continued their back and forth battle to end the half in a 10-10 tie. In the second half the Wolverines took the lead with two singles and lead 12-10 going into the final seconds of the game. With two seconds remaining the Predators were able to score a 14-yard touchdown for a 16-10 victory.

The Sr. Varsity Wolverines fell to 0-4. They face the Toronto Jr. Argos in the 5 p.m. contest at TASSS this Saturday.

Chase Batley had two singles and Zac Vesnaver had a successful convert kick.

On Sunday the Jr. Varsity Wolverines travelled to Bellville and continued to improve with their 29-17 victory over the QuinteSkyh­awks.

The Wolverines led 8-4 at the half and scored 21 points in the second half to secure the victory. Kurt Cantello had two touchdowns and Thomas Switzer and Mack McFarlane had single touchdowns.

Spencer Vesnaver scored five points on four convert kicks and a single off a missed Field Goal attempt.

The Wolverines Jr. Varsity will play the Toronto Jr. Argos in the middle game this Saturday at the TASSS Field.
