Julie Chatten enters school board race
Active in local school issues for years, she fought to try to stop LDSS from closing as high school
A Douro-Dummer Township resident has filed papers to run as a public school board trustee.
Julie Chatten submitted her nomination papers in early May for the upcoming municipal election on Oct. 22.
She’s running to represent the townships of Douro-Dummer, Otonabee-South Monaghan and Cavan Monaghan with the Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board, a seat currently held by Angela Lloyd.
Chatten has a vision and passion to see local, rural schools continue to grow and become vibrant hubs in the community, while providing superior education, according to a news release issued Monday.
The Douro-Dummer mother was part of the Lakefield District Intermediate Secondary School (LDISS) is Open committee, which fought to save the Lakefield high school from closing. During that time, Chatten was also a member of the Accommodation Review committee.
For the last three years, Chatten has been the council chairwoman at Ridpath Public School and Lakefield District Intermediate School and since merging, Lakefield District Public School, too.
She has volunteered extensively at the Lakefield schools, including planning the annual fun fair for three years.
In April, Chatten was one of three volunteers to receive the Accolade Award from the public board. The award recognizes outstanding volunteers.
In addition to her commitment to the Lakefield schools, Chatten has also served on the Peterborough Canada Day Parade committee and the Peterborough Snofest committee.
