Cemetery tour explores tragedy
Trent Valley Archive hosts event in July
Trent Valley Archives (TVA) is offering the Tragic Tales Little Lake Cemetery Tour July 6, 13 and 20 from 7 until 8:30 pm.
“The early days of Peterborough have many tales of joy and hope but also of misfortune and loss. Nowhere is more appropriate than Little Lake Cemetery to tell these stories of exclusion, strength, broken-heartedness, drownings and disaster,” states a release for the tours.
Led by TVA guide Madison More, the tour will include “the circumstances that led to the collapse of the Turnbull Building, the peculiar demise of little Freddie McMaster and the unfortunate details surrounding the death of prominent mill owner Samuel Dickson”. Participants on the tour will also hear “why an early prominent Roman Catholic Peterburian came to be buried in Little Lake Cemetery and how an interesting story developed from the discovery of a tiny headstone”.
The tours are a great idea for families or somewhere to take those out-of-town visitors.
The cost is $17 and reservations are required. You can book on line by visiting trentvalleyarchives.com and clicking on Events, calling Heather at 705745-4404 or emailing admin@trentvalleyarchives.com.
