Lions for Sight raises funds for PRHC

Local club one of 26 to raise $202,669.68 for cataract surgery equipment

Lions for Sight recently completed their drive to raise funds for cataract surgical equipment for Peterborou­gh Regional Health Centre. Twenty-six Lions Clubs around the area joined the campaign spearheade­d by the Fowlers Corners and District Club. Combined the Clubs raised $202,669.68 through their Lions Internatio­nal Centennial Community Legacy Project, celebratin­g a century of service by Lions around the world.

Omemee and District Lions Club and the Omemee Lioness Club were part of the 26 Clubs.

Omemee Days

Omemee Days will be held throughout the village June 30 and July 1. Full schedule of events are available for pickup at the Omemee Library, Legion, Foodland or Darling Insurance.

A BMX/scooter and skateboard competitio­n will be held at the beach, July 1 at 9 a.m.

Cutting Edge Landscapin­g and Excavating will sponsor a ball hockey tournament, June 30. Registrati­on is at 8:15 a.m. with the first game at 9 a.m. It will be a 3 on 3 with a goalie.

The Omemee Lioness will host their annual pancake breakfast at Coronation Hall, June 30, 8-11 a.m. The Omemee Blooms will host a garden tour with free plants to the first 100 participan­ts. Tours start at Coronation Hall.

There will be a yard and bake sale at Trinity United Church with a Lions’ barbeque from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Community Care will have an informatio­n booth. Another yard sale will be held at Roger Williams Service Centre the same time.

The Omemee Baptist Church, Sturgeon St. will have children’s games while the newly renovated library will be open for tours, 10 a.m.- 2 p.m.

At the Legion there will be a mural unveiling from 2-4 p.m. followed by music by Frank Wilkes, a Neil Young tribute band and barbeque from 4-8 p.m.

The Ducktona 700 duck race will be held at the Mary St. bridge at 1 p.m. The Lions will hold a barbeque at the Boat Launch, noon-2 p.m. You can purchase tickets at Coronation Hall Service Centre, local businesses or from a Lions’ member.

Tickets are $5 each and give you the chance to win $700 from C21 United, R.E. Brokerage, Omemee; a FitBit blaze from Glendarvon Farms, Cavan; 8 rounds of golf and a cart from Deer Run Golf Course; a blood pressure monitor donated by Countrysid­e Pharmacy and $100 from Aline Utility Ltd. Lindsay. The Dead last award for the slowest duck is $100 donated by Stoddart Funeral Home, Lindsay.

The Legion will have an Open House July 1, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. From 5 p.m. under nightfall there will be music at the beach by the Black Fly band followed by the ever-popular fireworks display.
