OMEMEE– Organizers of a series of pop-up musical performances are promising to fill the streets of Omemee with music next month.

The four spontaneous shows will surprise locals and visitors alike starting Saturday, organizers stated in a press release, adding that the exact locations and artist names won’t be released until “the last minute.”

The pop-up shows could be close to busy intersections, facilities, porches and “maybe even” Coronation Hall, organizers stated.

The final show on July 28 at the historic hall will include fiddler and traditional Celtic musician Melissa Payne of Ennismore, as well as a local opening act.

Her solo career has produced three full-length albums.

The latest – Darker Than Your Dark – was released in April.

Her guest collaborators have included Blue Rodeo’s Greg Keelor, James Mckenty, Matt Mays, Natalie Macmaster, cellist Nathaniel Smith and Jimmy Bowskill of The Sheepdogs.

Organizers hinted a “very special guest” who has played the hall previously is expected to join Payne on stage.

The venue hosted Neil Young for a concert broadcast live around the world on Dec. 1, as well as Greg Keelor of Blue Rodeo, The Sadies and Garth Hudson of The Band.

The show runs from 8 to 11 p.m. at Coronation Hall at 1 King St. W in Omemee.

Tickets are available for $20 by emailing Doug@greenservices.ca, rayemarshall53@gmail.com, or jkellett@darlinginsurance.net. They are also available by asking Julie Kellet at Darling Insurance’s Omemee office at 32 King St. E.
